Editorial policy.
How we create and review the educational content you read on this site.
Our purpose
Everything we publish is written for education, not individualized advice. Our goal is to help people understand common retirement decisions, rollovers, annuities, income planning, and tax strategy, in plain language before they talk with a licensed professional about their own situation.
How we choose topics
We focus on the questions people actually face when approaching retirement: what to do with an old 401(k), how annuity surrender charges work, how sequence-of-returns risk affects a withdrawal plan, and similar decisions. Topics are chosen based on what our team hears most often from clients and visitors.
Review process
Every article is intended to be reviewed by a named, credentialed professional before it is published or relied upon.
Sources we rely on
Where possible, we cite and link to official, primary sources rather than summarizing secondhand commentary, including:
- Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
- Investor.gov (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission)
- Social Security Administration (SSA)
- State insurance departments
Keeping content current
Articles are dated so you know when they were published. Rules around taxes, contribution limits, and insurance products change, when they do, we review and update affected articles rather than leave outdated information in place.
A note on advice
The information on this website is for educational purposes only and is not individualized investment, tax, or legal advice. Any financial decisions you make should be based on your individual situation and made in consultation with a qualified professional, such as a licensed financial advisor, insurance professional, attorney, or tax advisor.
